Hillary Clinton Chooses Tim Kaine as Her Running Mate: Rally Speech

After months of speculation, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has chosen her running mate: Virginia Senator Tim Kaine!

She made the announcement via Twitter on Friday, July 22, 2016:

I'm thrilled to announce my running mate, @TimKaine, a man who's devoted his life to fighting for others. -H pic.twitter.com/lTVyfztE5Z

A short time later, Kaine posted his first tweet since accepting Hillary's offer:

Just got off the phone with Hillary. I’m honored to be her running mate. Can’t wait to hit the trail tomorrow in Miami!

Hillary followed up this announcement the next day with a joint Clinton/Kaine rally in Florida. Senator Kaine gave a fantastic speech. Down to earth, relatable and inspiring. Kaine also filled out his paperwork to be nominated at the Democratic National Convention:

We all know Hillary is the most qualified presidential candidate. Just look at her resume--lawyer, First Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of the United States, Senator and Secretary of State--not to mention her numerous accomplishments in each of those positions.

Kaine's resume is also highly impressive: lawyer, City Council member, Mayor, Lieutenant Governor, Governor, Democratic National Committee Chair and Senator. With Kaine as Hillary's running mate, this is the most experienced and qualified ticket I've seen.

Over the course of his career, Kaine has fought housing discrimination, championed early childhood and higher education, closed gun sales loopholes, defended women's reproductive rights and advocated for LGBT rights. You can read details on these points here.

By choosing Tim Kaine as her running mate, Hillary has shown that she actually cares about governing (instead of just campaigning) and wants an experienced partner working side by side with her in the White House.

That's the kind of President and Vice President we want and need, and that's the administration we're going to get come January 20, 2017.

Who Should Hillary Clinton's Vice President Be? The Winner Is...

Who will Hillary Clinton's Vice President be? There's been speculation for literally months and months and months. But the rumors and reports have been swirling in recent weeks as Hillary and her team vet various contenders.

Starting on June 9, you had the chance to submit the names of people who you wanted to see be considered, in our unofficial VP contest. Then in the weeks that followed, you voted week after week to narrow the field of 35 names down to 20, then to 10 and finally to five.

Over the past week, you've been voting for a winner. And now the results are in.

First, keep in mind that I am not affiliated with Hillary or her team, so these polls have not been used by the campaign.

So let's get right to it. The winner of our unofficial contest, the person who you want to see Hillary choose as her running mate, is...

ELIZABETH WARREN

To give some stats on how she did over the course of this contest: Senator Warren tied for the most submissions sent in. When voting began, Round 1 saw 55.3% of voters choose her. During Round 2, she received 55.2% of the votes. Starting with Round 3, you could only vote for one candidate, and Warren had 41% of the votes, but it still kept her in first.

In the final round to choose the winner, 49.8% of participants chose Warren. Here is how the results played out over the past week:

Elizabeth Warren: 49.8%
Cory Booker: 16%
Tom Perez: 15.2%
Tim Kaine: 11.4%
Sherrod Brown: 7.6%

There's been lots of speculation about Warren, and these other names, as Hillary's running mate. It's been reported that Hillary will announce her Vice Presidential pick on Friday, July 22 in Florida. No matter who Hillary chooses, whether it's someone on this list or someone else, we all know that that person will be a great choice not only for Hillary but also for this country.

Who Should Hillary Clinton's Vice President Be? Vote for the Winner!

The 2016 Democratic National Convention will be here before we know it. But first, Hillary Clinton has to announce her running mate.

In our unofficial contest to select her Vice President, you voted in the third round to narrow the list of 10 names down to five.

Based on your voting, the five who have been eliminated are: Xavier Becerra, Joe Biden, Julian Castro, Al Franken and Martin O'Malley.

The five names who are advancing are: Cory Cooker, Sherrod Brown, Tim Kaine, Tom Perez and Elizabeth Warren.

Now it's time to vote one final time. Round 4 will last a week. After this round is over, the results will determine the winner, the person who we believe should be Hillary Clinton's running mate.

We're closing in fast on the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her running mate in the days leading up to the four-day event. Who will it be?

Over the past week, a ton of you voted to narrow the list of 20 names down to 10.

Based on your voting, the 10 who have been eliminated are: Wesley Clark, Bill Clinton, Wendy Davis, Kamala Harris, John Hickenlooper, Amy Klobuchar, Claire McCaskill, Chris Murphy, Deval Patrick and Bernie Sanders.

The 10 names who will be advancing are: Xavier Becerra, Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Sherrod Brown, Julian Castro, Al Franken, Tim Kaine, Martin O'Malley, Tom Perez and Elizabeth Warren.

There's lots of chatter out there about who Hillary Clinton will choose as her running mate. Hillary's campaign is delving deep into vetting the contenders. The media have discussed various names. And we are doing the same.

You recently had the chance to submit your own choices. Then you voted in Round 1 to narrow the list down from 35 to 20, which means it's time to vote again.

Round 2, which consists of 20 names, will last a week. After this round is over, the results will determine the Top 10, with half being eliminated.

We are just over a month away from Hillary Clinton accepting the Democratic nomination at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, which means we are really close to finding out who she will pick as her running mate.

Various names have been floating around, but who do you want her to choose? Right after Hillary became the presumptive Democratic nominee, I started this contest and you had the chance to submit your choices. When all was said and done, 35 names have made the list.

Now that we've got our list, it's time to start voting to narrow it down until we eventually get to just one person that we Hillary supporters believe should be her Vice President. Here's how this will work. Each round will last a week, with Round 1 consisting of the initial 35 names--and you can vote for more than one! (Don't feel like you have to limit yourself right now.) After Round 1 is over, the results will determine the Top 20.
